Back to XMMS..
XMMS was my first love when I began using linux since Red Hat Linux 8.0. Grab the xmms-mp3 library and XMMS would play mp3s out of the box. Everything was fine.
I slowly switched over to Open SUSE and was using it for almost 2 years, with XMMS for playing MP3s. So far so good. Then came Open SUSE 10.3 which had some Flac Mp3 decoder (I’m not sure if I remember it right) which enabled MP3 playback from “cool” players like Banshee and even Amarok! Nice.
Now, for about an year, I’ve been using Fedora 32 bit, with the FLAC thingy. Now, a few days ago I did a x86_64 install, and it no longer worked. I was frustrated.. But, suddenly I remembered my first love, yea, you’re right, its XMMS! I did a yum install, got the xmms-mp3 x86_64 from somewhere on the net and I can play MP3s nicely. I agree XMMS may not be all that fancy (No Media Library etc), but it works like a charm without much effort.
I love you XMMS! I’m writing this song playing my favorite MP3..
